Still looking for improvements, I have this year tried a new cross in order to continue to move forward with my 'goldfish '.. This is what i enjoy in the Red melon discus reproduction .
This will mark the beginning of a new test for my red discus lines.
I propose you to discover here the fruts of this selection 2015…
Two discus feasting Artemias…
A reproduction far from perfection
The goal for this year was not to obtain perfect fish from the first generation.
Infact, I did not knew if I had taken the right direction.
How were going to express certain genes? May I hope something positive? and especially… Did I not waste my time and get an average result?
Having very little room I strive always to think my cross (Maybe too much…).
And even if this red melon discus reproduction is not perfect from a standpoint of physical criterias; These first results still caught my eye.
The photos I share here are a presentation of my selection for this year. Those are young fish that still require time to express all of their charms.
The color remains nonetheless quite interesting and merit to pay attention.
For the next generation, It will take in my opinion that I remain vigilant (among other) on the quality of the fins.
Potential future generation I hope for year-end 2016 could also reveal more problematic tares (?)
You never know!
At the shape level, You can also see a discus more "successful" that meanwhile has streaks of remains in the region of his head.
Even if it does not have the pattern and color I am looking for, I find it rather elegant.
But stop here explanations… I let you discover the rest of my humble little "work" breeder.

And me I find it very nice the different small.
And for the other nothing to fault.
Thank you Christophe! 🙂
Hi Yann,
You tell us enough.
What was the novelty ? Golden genes ?
What has changed? Why you doubts on the direction taken? I find the rather successful result !
Hi David!
It is always a pleasure for me to read you here!
You are very curious!!!! ahahahaha
Yes, The new home was to make "golden" genes on a variety "Red Melon".
This gene brings many interesting things, but I think he's getting fast 'weak' if it is not "run" through good crosses.
I got 2 types of phenotypes associated with their ancestors. The golden is a mutation of Brown, I got fish 'Brown base', and «base pigeon» fish.
One of my main questions was: Who benefits this crossing? fish 'Brown base' or of 'base pigeon '.?
As I said in the above report, I do not have much space and my decisions are considered. Take a wrong direction would make me lose more than a year of selection and worse a genetic…
The first result is interesting but I'm still waiting to see their physical evolution (shape, fins…). For color, I admit that it is of advantage.
So, you know all my friend! 🙂
Yann
Hello,
I come to you my nephew bought 5 young discus. It comes in the Aquarium and it is beginner. Well, he would like to have information on precautions to be taken with his discus; on the changes of water, What are the parameters to follow.
Thank you
Hello Romain,
It's nice of you to "coach" your nephew! 🙂
I have written a few articles that could help him:
Here some general rules to properly maintain the discus: http://www.fanatik-discus.com/2008/11/pour-une-bonne-maintenance-des-discus/
Then, a little more technical but lay, some water surrounding keys: http://www.fanatik-discus.com/2009/09/leau-cet-element-si-important-pour-la-maintenance-des-discus/
This last link takes you on 2 blogs that might interest you.
If he can, It can "like" the Facebook of Fanatik-Discus page in order to follow the news of the site.
Take care,
